The ID.4 has a standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The GV60 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Volkswagen ID.4’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Genesis GV60 does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the ID.4 and the GV60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Volkswagen ID.4 is safer than the Genesis GV60:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Volkswagen ID.4 is safer than the Genesis GV60:

Side impacts caused 23% of all road fatalities in 2018, down from 29% in 2003, when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety introduced its side barrier test. In order to continue improving vehicle safety, the IIHS has started using a more severe side impact test: 37 MPH (up from 31 MPH), with a 4180-pound barrier (up from 3300 pounds). The results of this newly developed test demonstrates that the Volkswagen ID.4 is safer than the GV60:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the ID.4 has larger rear tires than the GV60 (255/45R20 vs. 235/55R19).

The ID.4’s standard 255/50R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GV60’s standard 55 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The ID.4 Pro S AWD handles at .86 G’s, while the GV60 Performance pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The ID.4 Pro S Plus AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the GV60 Performance (26.2 seconds @ .72 average G’s vs. 26.9 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the ID.4’s turning circle is 7.7 feet tighter than the GV60’s (31.5 feet vs. 39.2 feet). The ID.4 AWD’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the GV60’s (36.4 feet vs. 39.2 feet).

Cargo Capacity

The ID.4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the GV60 with its rear seat up (30.3 vs. 24 cubic feet). The ID.4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the GV60 with its rear seat folded (64.2 vs. 54.7 cubic feet).

Towing

The ID.4’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the GV60’s (2200 vs. 2000 pounds).

Ergonomics

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the ID.4 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GV60 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the ID.4 has a standard rear wiper. The GV60 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the ID.4 Pro S/Pro S Plus has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The GV60 doesn’t offer cornering lights. The ID.4 Pro S/Pro S Plus also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

Recommendations

The Volkswagen ID.4 outsold the Genesis GV60 by over five to one during 2024.
